Myli się ten, kto uważa, że wizyta prezydenta Stanów Zjednoczonych jest prosta z punktu widzenia protokołu. Z pozoru wszystko wydaje się nieskomplikowane. W czasie wizyty roboczej prezydent może uniknąć wielu czynności, które są obowiązkowe przy okazji wizyty oficjalnej lub państwowej. Obowiązkowe i czasochłonne, np. złożenie wieńca przed Grobem Nieznanego Żołnierza, wydanie kolacji, lunchu i wiele innych.
Prezydent Obama w krótkim czasie chce wykonać jak najwięcej gestów i stąd pomysł, że przyjmie liderów opozycji, choć takiego obowiązku protokół nie narzuca. Amerykanie prawidłowo jednak kalkulują, że rola opozycji w naszym kraju rośnie i warto wykonać taki gest.
Jarosław Kaczyński ma problem, bo swego czasu publicznie przysięgał, że za tego prezydenta progu Pałacu nie przestąpi, a będzie musiał. Ba! Może się okazać, że przy okazji otrze się o gospodarza, a nawet będzie musiał podać mu rękę.
Było już tak, że prezydent Clinton zapragnął zobaczyć na placu Zamkowym Lecha Wałęsę, który wtedy nie podawał ręki prezydentowi Kwaśniewskiemu. Przez dwa dni, wspólnie z ambasadorem USA tak ustalaliśmy trajektorię Wałęsy, żeby spotkał się z Clintonem, a nie wszedł na Kwaśniewskiego. Udało się. Jak wiadomo, embargo zakończyła pamiętna wizyta w toalecie w Watykanie i od tamtego czasu jest już normalnie. Wtedy wyglądało groźnie.

Whoever thinks that Barack Obama’s visit is simple from the protocol point of view, is wrong. At first everything seems simple. Americans are, however, calculating that the opposition’s role in our country’s politics is becoming more significant, therefore such gesture is worth the effort.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski has a serious problem, because he swore not to ever cross the doorstep of the presidential palace while the current president Bronislaw Komorowski is occupying it. Now he is going to have to. Better yet, he might even have to shake his hand!
