Jak by to dziwnie nie brzmiało, ale nową siedzibą Stałego Przedstawicielstwa RP przy Unii Europejskiej jest obiekt, który należał do dyrekcji poczty belgijskiej. Rzeczpospolita w najbliższy poniedziałek uroczyście zainauguruje jego działalność.
Poprzedni, zlokalizowany z dala do instytucji europejskich, w pięknym miejscu, z kortem tenisowym, już dawno nie wystarczał. Polska ma w Brukseli chyba dziesięć nieruchomości – ambasady, konsulaty, przedstawicielstwa handlowe – i do tej listy dochodzi teraz jeszcze jeden.
Gdy mówię, że przeprowadzamy się na pocztę, to dlatego, że instytucje belgijskie opuszczają centrum miasta, jako miejsce zbyt drogie i trudne komunikacyjnie. Przeprowadzają się więc poza centrum. Belgijską pocztę kupił bank, a Polska nabyła budynek od niego. Pewnie drożej.
Tak czy inaczej, stali pracownicy misji i prawie dwustu przyjezdnych z okazji prezydencji, mają nowe biuro.

A move to "the post office"
However weird it might sound, the new residence of Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU is a building that previously belonged to the Belgian post. It is going to be officially launched next Monday by Republic of Poland.
The previous one, located far from other European institutions, in a beautiful setting with a tennis court, wasn’t cutting it for a long time. Poland has something around ten real estate units in Brussels – embassies, consulates etc. and now another one is added to that list.
When I say that we’re moving to the post office, it’s because the Belgian institutions leave downtown area because it’s too expensive and too congested traffic-wise. What they do is move outside of downtown. The Belgian post was bought by a bank, and Poland bought the building from that same bank. Probably for more money.
Either way, the permanent workers of the Representation, followed by over 200 additional presidency-related ones, have a new office.
